Vidya Nidhi Professor M.A.K. Lakshman Dissanayake was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) Honoris Causa by the Open University of Sri Lanka at the 2021 Annual Convocation held at the university auditorium at Nawala on 2nd November 2021.
Prof. Dissanayake is the Research Team Leader of the Condensed Matter Physics and Solid State Chemistry project of the NIFS and Professor Emeritus (Physics) of University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. The honorary D.Sc. degree was awarded in recognition of his long term contributions to Science Education, Scientific Research and human resources development in Science & Technology in the country. The degree was conferred on Professor Dissanayake by Professor Dhammika Tantrigoda, the Chancellor of the Open University at the request of the Vice Chancellor Prof. P.M.C. Thilakarathne. Prof. Dissanayake delivered the convocation address on “Directing scientific research, Innovation and Human Resources towards Sri Lanka’s economic development”.
