Felicitation Ceremony Honoring Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake Chancellor, University of Peradeniya

The National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS) hosted a Felicitation Ceremony in honour of Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake, in celebration of his appointment as the Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya. The event took place on 28th July 2025 at the NIFS Auditorium, in the presence of colleagues, and members of the academic and non-academic community.

The ceremony commenced with a welcome address by the Director of NIFS, followed by remarks from the Chairman of the institute, both highlighting Prof. Dissanayake's outstanding academic journey, leadership in higher education, and enduring contributions to national development.

A tribute video presentation captured memorable moments from Prof. Dissanayake’s distinguished career and was warmly received by the audience. Further acknowledgements were delivered by the Young Scientists’ Association (YSA) and Prof. Rohan Weerasooriya, reflecting on his mentorship, guidance, and scholarly excellence.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of tokens of appreciation to Prof. Dissanayake, who also addressed the gathering with a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude and sharing reflections on his journey in academia and his vision for the future.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kalpani Kumari, Research Fellow at NIFS, followed by refreshments.

This event was a heartfelt expression of respect, admiration, and best wishes for Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake as he embarks on this new chapter as Chancellor of one of Sri Lanka’s most prestigious universities.
