The Annual Research Review of the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS), Sri Lanka was held on 30th March 2022 at the Prof. Cyril Ponnamperuma Auditorium, NIFS, Kandy.

Dr.(Mrs.) Seetha Arambepola, Honorable State Minister of Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research & Innovation was planning to visit to the ceremony as the Chief Guest, but due to the official commitment she has to participate for the BIMSTEC Leaders’ Summit meeting in Colombo and she officially nominated the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya as the representative for her.

As per the Honorable Minister’s invitation, Prof. M.D. Lamawansa graced this occasion as the chief guest. The welcome address was delivered by the Acting Director of NIFS Prof. Ranjith Premalal De Silva. The Chairman of the Board of Governance, NIFS, and Prof. M. D. Lamawansa (Vice - Chancellor of University of Peradeniya) also addressed the gathering. The Chairman of the organizing committee of the event Prof. S.P. Benjamin delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging all those who supported to make the event a success.

The Keynote Address of the event was delivered by Prof. Lamawansa. During the technical sessions, scientists of the NIFS presented the progress made in their respective research projects during the year 2021. The technical sessions were chaired by Prof. Athula Sumathipala, Prof. D. Subasinghe, Prof. Wolfgang Dittus, and Prof. Dammika Magana-arachchi. The event was concluded with final remarks given by the Director of NIFS, Prof. Ranjith Premalal De Silva.

Several awards were also presented to academic and non-academic staff of NIFS appreciating their performance and contribution towards research and the institute. The following staff members were presented with awards for their contributions in 2021.
