Appointment of the Director
Professor G.R.A. Kumara has been appointed as the new Director of the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS) by its Board of Governors. The appointment was made on 5th April 2026.
Prof. Kumara previously served as the project leader of the Material Processing and Device Fabrication Programme at NIFS and has been a member of its Board of Governors since 2025. He obtained his B.Sc. degree from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 1993, and his M.Phil. (Physics) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1997.
Prof. Kumara has received several national and international awards in recognition of his contributions to scientific research, particularly in the field of dye-sensitised solar cells. He has authored over 80 research publications and has actively organised and participated in numerous international conferences and workshops throughout his scientific career.
