The NIFS has a close collaboration with Shri Matah Wishno Devi University which is situated  14 km away from the holy town of Katra in the Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir. Shri Matah Wishno Devi University  is a fully residential university with world class infrastructure complemented with competent faculty. 

The two institutes signed an MOU for research collaboration in 2018 with the purpose of developing scientific research and academic cooperation in the fields of Engineering and Technology to understand the societal needs by research and transfer the gained knowledge to the community while promoting relations and mutual understanding between the two institutes. 

According to the MOU the two parties undertake to promote and develop the research corporation as exchange of academic staff, administrative staff and students, plan for joint research, exchange information and publications related to the field of Geoscience. Both institutes provide laboratory, office and computing facilities , use of equipment, vehicles for local transport and field visits  during research work carried out at the respective host institute.
