Rohan Weerasooriya

Background

Professor Rohan Weerasooriya obtained his PhD in Geology (Peradeniya) in 1986. He worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Affiliate at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University (USA) in 1990. Prof. Weerasooriya is a Fellow of the National Academy of Science, Sri Lanka, a Fulbright Hayes Senior Researcher at the University of Maryland at College Park, USA and a DAAD Professor at the University of Erlangen, Germany. In 2008 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka. Prof Weerasooriya has teaching experience in the areas of Water Chemistry, Soil Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Instrumental Analytical Methods for Environmental Samples,/ Research Methodology/ Application of Molecular Modeling Methods for Environmental Processes. He visits many universities all over the country sharing his knowledge and experience annually. He is a Visiting Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Department of Applied Science, Rajarata University and the Department of Science and Technology, Uva Wellassa University, Department of Applied Sciences, Sabaragamuwa University.

Research Interest

Prof Weerasooriya's research interests include water quality modeling, trace organic matter removal and fate elucidation of pollutants at soil-solution interfacial region by mechanistic and molecular approaches.
