
Buwaneka Randeniya
Technical Officer - Computer Division
Buwaneka Randeniya is a Technical Officer in the IT Division at the National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS). He is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, security, and reliability of the institute’s IT infrastructure. His duties include troubleshooting network and hardware issues, maintaining NIFS LAN infrastructure and servers, and performing network administrator responsibilities. He also installs, configures, and maintains network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, servers, and cabling; sets up and manages LANs, WANs, VPNs, and wireless networks; monitors system performance to prevent downtime and outages; and implements robust security measures including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls. Additionally, he manages antivirus and endpoint protection systems, oversees patch updates, monitors for unauthorized access or suspicious activity, and develops and enforces IT security policies covering passwords, permissions, and encryption.
Buwaneka holds a B.Sc. in Information Technology from the Sri Lanka Buddhist Academy and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Information Technology at Uva Wellassa University. To further enhance his expertise, he is also following a professional course in AWS Solution Architecture.
Prior to joining NIFS, he served as an IT Assistantat the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) IT Division, where he gained practical experience in IT systems support and administration.
