Short video competition 2022 on Basic Research for Sustainability of Sri Lanka

About the Competition

For the International Year of "Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development”, the NIFS invites you to enter the Short video competition 2022. This competition is open to undergraduate & postgraduate students. Submit a 3-minute original video on how basic research is used or can be used to strengthen the Sustainability of Sri Lanka.

Your video entry could take almost any form. A public service announcement? An animated cartoon? An audio interview with a professional researcher? Some other format? You decide. 

Eligibility

  • Students who have registered for their undergraduate or postgraduate studies at any University in the country.
  • The contest is open to individuals or teams of interested (maximum 5).
  • Any production made by the NIFS staff members is not eligible.

Video

  • Videos should run between 150 and 180 seconds in duration with a 5-second “title screen”
  • Entries must be suitable for display to a general audience with respect to language, visual content, presentation, themes discussed, and related issues.
  • All entries must be completed in English, and videos must include content that is entirely understandable to an English-speaking audience.
  • While the copyright for the video and its content is retained by the entrant(s), entering the contest automatically provides NIFS the right to display the video online and/or in any public or private settings without restriction.
  • Videos must be previously unpublished, original content and must be the sole property of the entrants, not previously submitted to any other contest. Published material includes that which has been posted on the Internet. Videos may include footage shot at the site, animations, computer images, drawings, data, and so on.
  • Multiple Submissions are welcomed. Multiple submissions should be done as separate entries.
  • Your Video must be in HD quality, resolution 1920x1080 - FHD (Full HD) / 1080p.

Submission of entry/entries

Through the Online entry system on or before 31st August 2022.

In order for your entry to be valid, you must submit it using the online entry system on our website, including:

  • Completing all compulsory fields on each step of the entry form.
  • Uploading your short video.
  • Uploading the” title screen” still image from your video according to the given title screen format.

Judging criteria:

1.   Judging Committee appointed by the NIFS will judge and award the champion, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, and consolation winners with the criteria below:
       a.    Content (30%)
       b.    Creativity on subject delivery (30%)
       c.    Language (spoken and written) (20%)
       d.    Video Production Skills (20%)

2.   The ‘Most Popular Video’ award will be awarded to the video with the most ‘views’ on our NIFS YouTube channel during the designated voting time.

The champion, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, and consolation winners, & ‘Most Popular Video’ award

Announcement of results:

  • The competition results will be announced on the NIFS website and social media pages of the institute in early October 2022 (Please follow our social media and subscribe to our official YouTube channel for more updates).
  • All winners will be notified by email within the month of October 2022.

The submission deadline is 11.59 PM on 31st August 2022.

Submission of entry
