The National Institute of Fundamental Studies established by an Act of Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in 1981 pursues basic scientific research. Among its aims and objectives are to initiate, promote and conduct research and original investigations into fundamental studies with particular emphasis on mathematics, physical and chemical sciences, life sciences, social sciences and philosophy, each taken in the broadest sense.

The National Institute of Fundamental Studies (NIFS) will implement the project “Scaling Up Eco-Friendly Biofilm Biofertilizer (BFBF) Practices in Agriculture Island-Wide through Public–Private Partnerships (PPP, 2026–2028)” during 2026–2028. The project aims to promote sustainable BFBF-based fertilizer practices, strengthen eco-friendly fertilizer production, enhance farmer awareness, and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers across Sri Lanka.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified citizens of Sri Lanka for the following posts:
1. Research Assistant – 04 Posts
Monthly Allowance: Rs. 103,105/-
Status: Full Time
A four-year Degree specializing in Agriculture or a related field with First or Second Class Honours OR a Degree in Agriculture/related field with a relevant Postgraduate Degree containing a research component.
Age Limit: 18–45 years.
Sri Lankan citizenship, physical and mental fitness, and good moral character.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in data analysis, technical report writing, laboratory work, field work, agricultural extension, and BFBF-related activities.
2. Laboratory Assistant – 01 Post
Monthly Allowance: Rs. 57,808/-
Status: Full Time
Passed GCE Ordinary Level (O/L), preferably with Agriculture as a subject.
Age Limit: 18–45 years.
Sri Lankan citizenship, physical and mental fitness, and good character.
Preference will be given to candidates with practical, laboratory, field, agricultural extension, and BFBF-related experience.
3. Field Assistant – 03 Posts
Monthly Allowance: Rs. 61,112/-
Status: Full Time
Passed GCE Advanced Level (A/L), preferably with Agriculture as a subject.
Age Limit: 18–45 years.
Sri Lankan citizenship, physical and mental fitness, and good character.
Preference will be given to candidates with field and agricultural extension experience, particularly in BFBF.
Candidates who own a motorcycle and possess a valid driving licence will be preferred.
Duty Locations
Applicants should be willing to serve in any of the following districts:
Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Ampara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, or Batticaloa.
